Permit zones, enforced as the permit reads.

Refineries, terminals, and chemical plants run on permits and PPE rules. Camnitive checks them on the cameras already on site. It counts people in permit zones, times outdoor exposure, and watches loading racks and the perimeter.

What goes wrong today.

  • Permits are signed on paper, broken on site

Headcount and time limits in permit zones are hard to check once work starts, especially across large units at night.

  • Loading racks mix tankers and people

Drivers and operators walk between moving tankers at racks and gantries, and near misses rarely get reported.

  • Heat and long shifts outdoors

Work-rest schedules for hot hours depend on supervisors who cannot be everywhere on a large site.

Detect · Step 1 of 4

What the cameras watch for.

Processing stays inside your site perimeter, with outbound-only links to FloFusion hosted by Camnitive or deployed privately in your own cloud or data centre.

Varenmoor Power & Utilities

    • Permit-to-work zones

Headcount and time inside hazardous zones checked against the open permit window.

    • Hazardous-area entry

Entry to restricted process areas outside permitted hours, flagged with sealed evidence.

    • PPE compliance

Hard hats and vests at gates, process units, and loading racks.

    • Outdoor heat exposure

Continuous time in exposed outdoor zones during hot hours, timed against your work-rest schedule.

    • Loading-rack vehicle movement

Tanker speed, bay dwell, and people near moving tankers at loading racks.

    • Perimeter & intrusion

Fence lines, jetties, and tank farms watched around the clock.

    Rules

    Rules you would run.

Written in plain words, run on site, checked by a vision model before anyone is alerted.

    1. Permit-to-work

“No more than 4 people in Unit 12 during the 08:00 to 16:00 permit window”

Then: CONTROL ROOM ALERTED · CLIP SEALED ✓

    2. Loading racks

“No person within 5 m of a moving tanker at Rack 3”

Then: RACK OPERATOR PAGED · NEAR MISS LOGGED

    3. Heat exposure

“Prompt a break after 45 minutes in the tank-farm zone between 11:00 and 16:00”

    Measure · Step 2 of 4

Every alert becomes a number you manage.

What FloFusion measures for Oil, Gas & Chemicals, per zone, per site and over time.

    • PPE compliance by zone

Hard hats and hi-vis inside each hazardous zone, per shift.

    • Lift-zone entries

People inside a rigged lift zone, and for how long.

    • Lone-worker time

Time people spend alone in remote or restricted areas.

The rules that apply to Oil, Gas & Chemicals, scored continuously from camera evidence, with a signed record anyone can verify.

    • NIS2 Directive

Essential and important entities must secure their network and information systems (including OT and camera networks), with incident reporting duties.

    • EU AI Act

AI used for workplace monitoring and safety is high-risk: you must run risk management, keep event logs, maintain technical documentation, and guarantee human oversight and accuracy monitoring.

    • UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018

Video of identifiable people is personal data: you need a lawful basis, transparency, data minimisation and retention limits, and a DPIA before systematic monitoring of staff.

    • ICO guidance on monitoring workers

Monitoring must be necessary, proportionate and open: tell workers what you monitor and why, consult them, choose the least intrusive means, and avoid covert monitoring.

    Improve · Step 4 of 4

    What to change next.

The process map shows when and where crews take the most risk.

    1. Cordon hoist work into a window

Schedule lifts when the pump hall is clear, with a marked keep-out zone.

    2. A PPE check at the yard gate

Catch missing hi-vis before crews reach the breaker bays.

    Getting started

A pilot on the cameras you own.

Prove permit-zone, PPE, heat-exposure, and loading-rack rules at one unit, terminal, or plant. Footage never leaves the site.

    Scope

    • Process units and hazardous areas (headcount and time against permit windows)
    • Loading racks and gantries (tanker movement and people near moving tankers)
    • Exposed outdoor work areas (continuous time during hot hours)
    • Fence lines, jetties, and tank farms (perimeter)

    We configure

    • Plain-English rules per zone, with permit windows, schedules, and headcount limits
    • Timers for continuous time in outdoor zones, matched to your work-rest schedule
    • Optional outputs (relay modules, Modbus TCP to the DCS or PLC, ONVIF relays) as an aid next to certified safety systems
    • Routing to the control room, HSE, and security, with sealed evidence on each event

    You walk away with

    • Permit-zone exceptions per week (headcount or time over the limit)
    • PPE exceptions at gates, units, and racks, against a baseline
    • Workers exceeding the outdoor time limit, by shift
    • Time from a perimeter event to control-room acknowledgement

    Questions

Oil, Gas & Chemicals: common questions.

Can the processing hardware go in a hazardous area?

It does not need to. The FloFrame box sits in a control or server room and reads the streams of your existing cameras, including certified cameras already in hazardous areas.

    Link to this question

Does it detect leaks, fire, or smoke?

Yes. Smoke, flame, leaks and spills are standard detections on your existing cameras, alerting the control room with the clip. They are an aid next to your certified gas and fire systems.

    Link to this question

How does it work with permit-to-work?

Rules follow zones and time windows. Set the headcount and hours a permit allows, and Camnitive alerts when a zone has too many people or people outside the window.

    Link to this question

    What about heat stress?

Camnitive does not measure temperature or health. It times how long people stay in exposed zones during the hours you set, so supervisors can enforce your work-rest schedule.

    Link to this question

Our OT network is segmented. How does it connect?

FloFrame only connects out, over HTTPS on port 443, to FloFusion. Nothing crosses your perimeter inbound, and no VPN is needed. FloFusion is hosted by Camnitive, or deployed privately in your own cloud or data centre.

    Link to this question

Which regulations does the evidence help with?

Examples include OSHA process-safety and PPE duties, the EU OSH Framework Directive and UK HSE expectations. Your HSE team decides which apply; where a pack covers them, Camnitive scores the clauses continuously with sealed evidence.
